When it comes to getting conned by buying fake Chanel jackets, I am a certified pro. I have thousands of dollars worth of fake Chanel in my closet. I have receipts and counterfeit certifications! What can I say? I am an overachiever!
I even have a fake Chanel necklace to accessorize my counterfeit jackets! Clearly, I have been taken to the cleaners! The running total of my counterfeits is close to $7000. YIKES!!
I have no pleasure in purchasing counterfeit items, and certainly, I despise falling victim to online sellers who deceitfully advertise Chinese-made replicas for $20 as “authentic” Chanel, charging exorbitant prices in the thousands of dollars.
Counterfeit goods are so pervasive on the internet that it’s impossible not to encounter one. You have to be diligent about authentication, or it’s pretty easy to end up getting conned like me.
Let’s go over the list of my counterfeit wounds collection.
My First Fake Chanel Jacket
Chronologically speaking, this was my second fake Chanel jacket, but this was the first to be certified counterfeit.
Chanel Egypt teal jacket that popped on eBay in NWOT (new without tag) condition. It was truly a dream jacket, priced at $12,800 at the Chanel boutiques if my memory serves me right.
There was no way I was going to spend that much money on a jacket, or so I thought.
I fell prey to a scammer on eBay who was selling the same jacket for $3600. What a deal!! I jumped on it right away! The seller assured me that it was authentic when I asked her if it was authentic, and I believed it because I was naive.
When it comes to high end, pre-loved luxury – Never Trust The Seller! Get every item authenticated, no exceptions!
By sheer luck, I discovered the jacket was counterfeit, and I was able to get my money back. I love that Amex has my back. The detailed story of that saga is here.
My Second Fake Chanel Jacket
Sadly, I lost money on this one. I bought this one in January 2021, so chronologically, this is my first fake, but I didn’t ‘get it authenticated till 2023, so it earned the “certified fake” badge much later. Hence, this one got the 2nd fake Chanel spot—a big mistake. I will say this until I am blue in the face – Get your Chanel authenticated!
I consider this to be one of the really good quality fake Chanel jackets out there. It can fool a semi-experienced person because it looks very, very similar to the real deal. Here, it is side by side, fake and authentic versions of the same jacket. Can you tell the difference?
Besides the brand tag, I see no difference between the real and counterfeit. All other differences are so subtle that it’s impossible to know unless you have the real one right next to it. Like I do.
Now, keep in mind that this jacket was released in late 2018. I purchased it in 2021. It was a jacket from a 3-year-old collection, not the latest, current in-store collection. And I still got duped!!
Just because a jacket is from an older collection doesn’t mean it’s less susceptible to fakes. In fact, the age it makes it more believable to be authentic to an unsuspecting buyer.
If A Seller Is Selling One Fake, Assume ALL Items Are Fake
For this reason, I didn’t think for a minute that it would be a fake. Thieves are clever, you know? This eBay seller was trying to sell a fake yellow Chanel jacket a few weeks later. You would think that would sow the seeds of doubt in my head, but it didn’t. I continued to believe mine was real.
Note – If there is any mention of FAKE or COUNTERFEIT item in the seller’s feedback, assume all items are fake.
Years later, I bought the same jacket from a reputed seller in the black and white colorway and in the same size. As soon as I received the authentic jacket from her, I knew mine was fake. I lost $2500 on this one and was boastfully wearing a fake Chanel jacket for over two years. Cringe!
The Third Counterfeit Is the Charm!
This is my 3rd counterfeit jacket. Again, chronologically, it’s 2nd. The eBay seller was selling this one for $500. She made no claims of authenticity, and $500 is rather an appropriate price for a fake, so I am not upset. I haven’t gotten it authenticated, but I am pretty certain it’s fake.
The tag is a kind of giveaway. Almost all the counterfeit Chanel jackets I have bought and/or seen online have a tag that’s only attached on the two sides and is quite sloppy. Authentic Chanel tags are attached on three sides. See the difference?
It may mean nothing, and counterfeiters will catch on; I don’t know. I don’t think I have purchased any counterfeits since this one. I still have many from the past that need to be authenticated. Nowadays, I submit for authentication the minute it arrives.
Fake Chanel Necklace For Bonus
I purchased this one for $565 on Etsy. I should have known better. This necklace was listed as “Price upon request” on Chanel’s website. That means the price was so offensively high that Chanel didn’t want to advertise it, and I was so offensively dumb that I thought I could score it for $500. Haha!
I knew it was junk as soon as it arrived. I mean, you can see the nylon thread. It is just a garbage-quality $20 replica. Ugh! Oh well! I should have demanded my money back. I was so new at this game and had no idea that authentication services existed that I didn’t know what to do.
Final Thoughts
- Counterfeit Chanel Jackets Are Everywhere!
- You are not safe from buying a fake just because it is from an older collection.
- Get your purchase authenticated as soon as it arrives.
I am not embarrassed about my counterfeit Chanel stash. They are scars from being a Chanel pre-loved warrior. Here is the blog post detailing some tell-tale signs of counterfeit Chanel jackets that I have noticed over time.
