Chanel’s pre-fall 2016 Metiers d’art collection is also known as Paris- Rome or Paris In Rome collection.
This particular RTW has a couple of highly sought-after, iconic jackets that are collectors’ favorites. Kristen Stewart wore the black version of *the* jacket in the ad campaign that Karl himself photographed.
The black version is on my wishlist, but I am waiting to find one that’s in excellent condition at a reasonable price point. That’s definitely proving to be a challenge.
Say Hello To Paris-Rome Brown Edition
In the meantime, I decided to take the plunge and bought the Chanel Paris-Rome brown jacket. After seeing it on my favorite non-influencer yet influencer, Yasmin, in Dubai, I was sold.
It was this picture that did me in. I had to have it! She is lovely and tall, so I had to be realistic about how things look on me, but this looks good…or so I think.
Another eBay Score From A Pro Seller
I purchased this one on eBay from the seller “Vintage-Heritage,” who is a professional seller. She is not just on eBay but also on Vestiaire and Poshmark. She also has a presence on social media, which is a big plus.
I have written extensively about buying Chanel jackets on eBay here and here, so be sure to read up.
This was an easy one because the seller had already had it authenticated. At that time, I was still recovering from eBay scammer, at that time so I got my own authentication for peace of mind.
Alterations – None. Needs To Be Taken In
I, for once, bought a Chanel jacket that fit me perfectly at the time. This is a size 40, and I was a size 40 at the time, so it fit perfectly.
Unfortunately, I have lost about 20 LB since then, and it definitely needs to be taken in a bit. It looks alright now, but it could use some trimming.
I have a tailor that I adore who does a fabulous job with my Chanel jackets. I am giving her a break from my in-out-in-out drama, hoping to resume in winter (2023).
The Rough, Coarse Tweed
I own several Chanel jackets, and this tweed, by far, is the most rough, coarse, and unrefined feeling tweed I have ever felt.
If you look at the tweed composition, you will see it has wool, cotton, mohair, and angora, which are naturally coarse elements.
There is a lack of delicate ribbons (like the Dubai jacket) or any other light, soft elements to soften the feel of the tweed.
If you look at the weaving of the tweed itself, it is very open and coarse. It looks like crotchet yarn made of jute. Oh, the horror! I know, I know!
Bottom line – I am not a fan of the tweed on the Chanel Paris-Rome brown jacket. I have heard that the black version has a much softer wool, so I am looking forward to it.
The Trim Details
The beautiful woven ribbon trim is probably the only sophisticated, refined element when it comes to the fabric of this jacket.
It is gorgeous, and the black satin ribbon is a nice touch as it pulls from the black elements of the tweed. This detail is the same on the black version as well, except the black one is all black.
The Warm Gold Buttons On Paris-Rome
You know how much I love the warm, 24 kt gold plated buttons on the vintage Chanel jackets. Chanel doesn’t make that kind of gold anymore.
Most of Chanel’s buttons these days are silver, aged gold, or blah light yellow gold. Not this baby! This one has the vintage style, rich, yellow gold buttons that stand out on the brown/black tweed.
Cut & Fit Of The Jacket
This is your typical boxy, straight-cut Chanel jacket. Classic in every way, with four pockets and a rounded neckline, and it checks all other boxes.
The tweed is slightly bulky. Remember, I think it looks and feels like jute. Haha!
The chain on the bottom helps it lay better on you.
Final Thoughts On Paris In Rome Jacket
I know you can never have enough little black jackets, but a brown one would be a great addition to your neutral stash.
Because of the boxy nature of this and many Chanel jackets, you have to have them well fitted to your body. I would recommend not buying too big, or it will look dowdy.
I am definitely not a fan of the texture of its tweed, though. I have complained enough about it, but I will say it one last time – The tweed feels like jute. Potato sack jute!
If you like the look and are not as picky about the texture of the tweed, then I would recommend this beauty. I personally reach out for it less because of the texture. Or so I think.
