Chanel Egypt Black & Gold Jacket

This Chanel Egypt black and gold jacket is another show-stopper piece from the 2018-19 pre-fall métiers d’art collection. It is part of the famous 19A (2019 Autumn) collection by Karl Lagerfeld.

This collection’s name is Paris – New York. Although the New York influence is present, the majority of the collection was inspired by the Egyptian civilization.

Karl passed away soon after presenting this collection, so this was his final collection.

This collection is referred to as “the Egypt collection” by many people in the circle.

Say Hello To Black & Gold Jacket From 19A

This is a V-neck, collar-less Chanel jacket with two pockets and four buttons. It’s definitely not a classic, but it’s still a very beautiful jacket.

It Was My First Chanel Sale Purchase

Chanel runs sales; I didn’t know this, did you? From what I understand, Chanel sales happen twice a year, in June and December.

Don’t quote me on this one; ask your SA. Luckily, social media knows everything, so I was waiting for the sale. I texted my SA at Sak’s in Michigan.

She offered me this one as one of the options. I do not remember the exact price, but it was under $3500, not including tax. I could be wrong.

Black & Gold Beauty Of A Tweed

Chanel Egypt’s tweed jacket is made of gorgeous fantasy tweed. You can see the gold thread is woven into the foundation of black tweed. The black base is a deep black, and the gold is rich and warm.

The combination is dramatic and pretty spectacular on this one.

Feel Of Chanel Egypt Black Tweed

It looks beautiful, but it is a very stiff tweed. It does not have any sort of drape to it.

As much as I love the looks of this tweed, I do not like how it feels on the body. It is a very structured tweed.

The hard structure and lack of drape are not very helpful for a small-chested person like me.

If you were to have more of the hourglass shape, you could rock this one much easier, in my opinion.

Buttons On Chanel Egypt Black & Gold Jacket

The buttons are gold bases with alternate black enamel strips and black dotted strips. The CC logo is off to the side.

The sleeves have no buttons, surprisingly.

Cut and Fit of The Jacket

Flared cut of the black and gold jacket

The cut is fitted at the top, but it flares from the waistband down towards the bottom. The fit is pretty boxy. The rigid tweed adds to the boxiness.

It is a subtle flare. That is why I think this jacket is good for anyone with a larger chest and smaller hips. The jacket will accentuate your hips.

The sleeves have almost a conical shape to them. The seam is very visible on the top of the sleeve, and it forms a cone-like shape, if that makes sense.

The sleeve is larger at the top and tapers off towards the end, mimicking the jacket’s shape.

Weight Of The Jacket

This jacket is medium heavy, as you would expect from a jacket designed for a fall collection.

Chain Detail At The Bottom

You can see the chain on this jacket is THICK! It’s one of the thickest I have seen. It makes sense that a thick chain was added to help with the drape.

Alterations Done

I bought it in size 40, and it needed minor adjustments for the fit on the top. I asked my tailor to shorten it just a little because I felt like it was a little too long for me.

Since then, I have purchased a vintage Chanel jacket that is much longer, and I like the length of it. So, in hindsight, the length reduction wasn’t needed.

Final Thoughts

  • This jacket is stunning due to the dramatic contrast of black tweed with gold thread.
  • The jacket is structured and has a flare at the bottom
  • The tweed is firm and does not drape the best.

Will I Buy It Again?

I am not sure. It is not very flattering on me. I need a size C chest to be able to rock this, and your girl here got an A, and an A is not always a good grade, clearly.

I am a fan of this collection, though, and the tweed is undeniably gorgeous. Hence, the answer is “maybe.” I am definitely going to keep it for now.
