Chanel Boucle Jacket -1993 Fall

This gorgeous Chanel boucle jacket is one of my prized possessions. It was released in the fall of 1993, about 30 years ago (as of this writing in 2023), and it’s a testament to the timeless beauty of Chanel jackets.

Where Did I Spot This First?

I actually came across it for the first time on Kern1‘s Instagram account. She is a very talented photographer and takes the most artistic photos of vintage Chanel jackets.

Then I spotted it on an influencer Lena Terlutter and that’s when i added it to my wishlist.

Where Did I Buy This Vintage Beauty?

It took me over two years to come across one in my size. I purchased it in the fall of 2022. This was my first purchase on Vestiarie Collective and my introduction to the platform.

I saw it, made an offer, and the seller accepted it. It was a smooth transaction. Vestiarie checks for authenticity, and even though I should get it re-authenticated, I didn’t because it’s vintage.

I don’t know if scammers are venturing into vintage yet, but I am sure it will happen, and I will be here to talk about it.

Alterations To The Boucle Jacket

This was a size 40 jacket. I thought it would be too big. Shockingly enough, I had to do zero alterations to this one, and I couldn’t be happier.

Something about tearing into a 30-year-old jacket doesn’t feel right. Of course, I would’ve had, it if I needed it. I am a firm believer in alterations.

Black & White Boucle Tweed

I am a sucker for black and white anything. Nothing creates more drama than the combo of black and white. What I love about this boucle beauty is that the drama is very subtle because the black and white is very small in scale.

The white is more of a cream color, so that helps soften it as well.

The tweed is pretty sturdy. No pulls, snags, or pilling. You can see, it’s pretty impressive for a 30-year-old garment.

It does get fuzzy here and there, but nothing noteworthy. I use a fresh razor to shave off the bunnies. I don’t want to get too aggressive toward a vintage fabric, so I haven’t tried the battery-operated shavers yet.

Gold Plated Buttons on Chanel Boucle Jacket

I was told by a Chanel professional reseller that the buttons on my jacket are 24 kt gold plated. There is something about actual gold plating that adds warmth and richness to the buttons. The gold buttons on current Chanel jackets just don’t have that same look.

I didn’t realize when I bought it, and the seller didn’t disclose it ( I didn’t think she knew), but the 3rd button on the sleeves was missing. The buttonhole has been sewed shut, so there are no orphan buttonholes.

I am fine with a couple of missing buttons. It’s a small sacrifice for a classic Chanel jacket under $3000. I can live with it.

Cut & Fit of The 1993 Vintage Beauty

The cut on this one is DIVINE! Back in the 1990’s Chanel made very fitted, slim-fit jackets. This jacket is one of the best-fitting jackets (if not THE best) in my collection. It fits like it was made for me.

Older Chanel jackets, especially from this era, tend to be longer than the current ones. This one is about 27″ long. I am petite (5’1″), and it doesn’t look oversized on me. To be honest with you, it’s likely due to the superb fit.

The Iconic Gold Chain

The gold chain is in excellent condition after 30 years, again, a sign of quality. No tarnishing to be found.

The Vintage Hand-Written Label

I can rattle off ten things I love about vintage Chanel jackets, and this is definitely on the list. I love the handwritten size and care tag on these vintage Chanel jackets. Why?

  • It’s kinda cool
  • It’s a great indicator of the actual wear of the jacket.

Mine looks like the jacket was barely used. There is not much fading on it.

Final Thoughts On Chanel Boucle Jacket

  • It’s a classic Chanel jacket that you will find at a reasonable price point.
  • It fits really, really beautifully
  • The tweed is not delicate, which is really nice. No stress when wearing it day to day.
  • Slightly long, which means it may be perfect for the tall gals.

Will I Buy It Again?

Yes, if I were to lose this jacket tomorrow, I will add it to my wishlist again and buy it again. It’s that good-looking, in my opinion. If you come across one in your size, definitely buy it.
