Vintage 94C Barbie Pink Chanel Suit With Wavy Buttons

This lovely pink Chanel suit jacket was on my radar for quite some time. To be honest, I just wanted the jacket as it’s hard for me to pull off a suit look without looking like old money.

I could only find a suit so I bought it.

Pink Chanel jacket

This was designed by Karl Lagerfeld for the spring 1994 collection. The C stands for the cruise, which is the season code for the early spring collection.

I purchased this right after the much-anticipated release of the Barbie movie in 2023. It was perfect timing because pink vintage Chanel clothing items became desirable after the movie.

Almost 30 Years Old & Timeless

This suit was made in 1994, and I purchased it in 2023, so basically, it’s 29 years old. Actually, it’s likely 30 years old because it was probably made in 1993 to be available for sale in boutiques in early spring.

Thirty years is really old for clothing. It was in excellent condition for its age. I see a few stains around the button holes.

I believe this is from the metal tarnishing so I am going to get it dry-cleaned soon to see if they can be taken out.

A Classic Chanel Suit In A Fun Pink

This beauty fits the definition of a “classic Chanel jacket” because it has all the characteristics of a classic Chanel.

This particular style, but not this particular color, was on my wishlist for a long time. Mrs. Vintage on Instagram has sourced the white and black versions of this several times.

Given a choice, I would’ve bought the white one instead of pink, but honestly, pink is way more practical for my lifestyle, and it’s quite an eye-catching color.

The suit is fairly simple, with solid pink tweed and black piping. The black in the buttons definitely adds more interest to an otherwise boring suit.

The Real Real Score At An Amazing Price

As you know, I am a huge fan of TRR for pre-loved Chanel jackets. Here are my tips on shopping on TRR for vintage Chanel jackets.

I spotted this pink Chanel suit on TRR several months ago. I added it to my faves but waited patiently for the price to go down.

Finally, I pulled the trigger on this one and the scarlet red beauty together.

Chanel Suit For About $1500

I paid $1600 for this suite, which is a great price, in my opinion. Most private resellers would charge about $2500-$3000 for the suit.

This is proof that you can build a nice collection of amazing Chanel jackets on a smaller budget. You have to be patient and strategic.

I snagged this set when it was only 30% off, but I could’ve waited and paid less.

Notice the missing gold chain. I am 99% certain that this jacket had one at its conception. I have ordered a replacement chain from this website.

Buying Chanel Suits

I do not like to buy Chanel suits, because I don’t wear skirts too often. I would certainly never wear a matching skirt suit.

I think a matching skirt suit has a very old money, royalty, or ultra-wealthy look. It’s a very formal look. I don’t have the lifestyle to rock that.

Here is Princess Diana wearing a beautiful powder blue Chanel suit. What a beauty!

The skirt might end up being a dud in terms of wearability, but it’s easy to wear with a black T-shirt. I can attempt to wear it, but it is going to be hard!

Length Of Vintage Chanel Jacket Alterations

Vintage Chanel jackets are sometimes very long, like 27″ -29″ long. It’s a fairly vintage depth, in my opinion. It can be a challenge to style it. I think it’s better suited for someone who is taller, like 5’5″ or more.

Look at this 5’9″ beauty rocking the same jacket in white. She looks gorgeous!

My jacket is 29″ long, and I am 5’1′ on a good day. I am going to take it to my tailor and see if I can have her shorten it by a couple of inches without losing the lovely shape at the bottom.

It sounds like a complicated alteration, so I am not very hopeful.

Pink Cotton Wearable Tweed

The tweed on this beauty is a woven cotton tweed. It’s a tightly woven tweed with a linen-like texture. This tweed has a fairly casual look to it.

I would rate the beauty & color of this tweed 4 out of 5

It would be very easy to wear, with a low probability of snags or pulls.

This tweed type is very durable for easy wear because it won’t get snags and pulls like the Lesage tweeds. My Dubai ribbon tweed jacket has pulls everywhere! That won’t be an issue with this beauty.

Micro CC lining inside Chanel jacket

The lining has micro CCs, and it’s made of 100% silk.

I would give this 5 out of 5 for carefree wearability

24 Karat Gold Plated Wave Buttons

Let’s admire the beauty & extravagance of these 24-karat gold-plated buttons. You have 12 on the front and three on each sleeve; that’s it.

I love the arrow-shaped detail on the sleeve. It’s very cool.

The buttons are made of three layers. First is the gold-plated wavy disk with a black plastic button in the center and the CC logo on top.

The black center coordinates beautifully with the black trim. The black center makes the otherwise thin trim on the jacket really pop.

Somewhere between 1991 and 1994, Chanel started to put the CC logo in the front and center on many of its buttons.

Vintage Chanel buttons used to be 24 Karat gold plated… quite a luxurious finish. They ended the practice in the early 2000s.

They are very cool but understated. I find them to be too many. A larger size and fewer number of buttons would’ve been better.

3 out of 5 for the beauty and scale of the buttons.

Cut & Fit Of Pink Chanel Suit

As I said earlier, this vintage Chanel jacket is very long @ 29″ long. It’s a short coat length.

It is slightly flared towards the bottom, so it’s not your typical boxy Chanel jacket. The cut and fit are very flattering and look simply beautiful.

The skirt is a pencil skirt with three buttons at the slit. Love the cut and the length of the skirt. It’s very sexy.

It’s a great jacket if you’re tall and lean. The skirt, on the other hand, would be perfect for even a short person.

I would rate the cut & fit at 5 out of 5

Wearability Of Pink Chanel Suit

As I said earlier, there is no way to wear this as a suit set beside to meet the ambassador of France. I would split the set.

I would wear a skirt with a black button-down or even a T-shirt. Of course, the jacket is the most wearable of the set, and I would wear it with jeans or even tights.

The tweed is a very durable, tightly woven cotton tweed, so it’s very wearable in that regard. There are too many Chanel logo buttons on the front, so the visible branding is quite a bit.

I would rate this 3 out of 5 for “Can you wear it to the grocery store?”

Final Thoughts

This suit checks the list of items of owning a vibrant pink Chanel jacket. It will be refreshing to wear all winter and early spring of next year.

I would definitely recommend owning one of these with the wavy buttons. This jacket was also made with wool tweeds in black and white.

This is one of those vintage pieces that you will see coming up for sale frequently so it is easy to score.
